Tomo

Tomo-no-ura has been flourshing as a port where travelers have gone dating back to the Heian Period. Fukuyama has developed as an industrial city ,whereas Tomo area is still full of flavor as a Japanese traditional town with atomosphere similar to Koyoto. The view of the Tomonoura(=inlet) from Taichourou(= a rest station) is said to be one of the most picturesque places in the Seto Inland Sea National Park.

I took this picture at the Chikuwa-selling Shop. Chikuwa is a tubular roll of boiled fish cake. Many different kinds are sold at this shop. You can even challenge to make chikuwa here. I like Puchi-puchi kamaboko made from shishamo smelt best.

The plan of constructing-bridge across the Tomo Bay has been a controversial issue. There are many intelligents persons who strongly oppose this plan. On the other hand there are a few citizens who believe that they need a bridge to develop the town. Another reason, they insist, is because it isn't accessible to the other side of the bay because all of the roads of this town are in bad condition.

Historically many bridges in the world have made a contribution to help cities thrive. Can it be the same for those built today? Is it true that the Seto Ohashi Suspension Bridge? The most important thing, I suppose, is the local self-governing body which makes more effort to have the citizens in Tomo be proud of their town. As long as they think that they have more on a convenience to the area than via the traditional mothods, then none of us can ignore their opinion. I would like to oppose the plan though...
