ELEMENTS FOR GOOD RIDE AND DRIVABILITY
- Suspension sphere
- Front suspension cylinder -Strut-
- Rear arm bearing
- Height adjustment in normal position
- Uppermount on front strut
- Lower arm bush
- Lower balljoint of swivel
- Balljoint at tie-rod end
- Anti-roll bar rubber bush and drop-link
- Mountbush on subframe
# Excluding vibration from engine,transmission driveshaft or tyre, road wheel.
Please check #1-4 prior to #5 and after, because first 4 elements affect to ride more directly than others.
Symptoms
- SUSPENSION SPHERE
Natural escaping of Nitrogen gas inside of Sphere is the cause.
"Spring rate " is increased.( means header)
About 40,000km is the time for suspicion or replacement.
>> Harder ride and stronger harshness
>> Decreased suspension stroke
>> Pitching
- FRONT STRUT
The most notorious point of BX. No other citroen ever seem to have this problem but BX.
Worn out top bearing of suspension cylinder is the cause. It comes around 50-60,000 km on the average in our country.
>> Deterioration of harshness from front suspension
>> Noise during driving or height control
>> No sinking of front suspension even after overnight
- REAR ARM BEARING
One of the weak points for Hydropneumatic Citroen.
Worn out or smashed bearing inside of the pivot of rear suspension is the cause.
It starts around 70,000km in case of BX in our country.
>> Increased harshness from rear suspension
>> Noise during driving and height control
>> Negative camber angle on rear wheel
>> No sink even after overnight (Rear)
- HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT
Need to check it once in a while.
When it is not stable , not only adjusting all over again but also need to suspect the fault of height corrector , control linkage ,
cylinder seal or even brake valve for rear height .
>> Too high : ride is getting harder, caused of increased "Spring rate"
>> Too low : under panel contacts bump rubber with some shock.
